A Montmartre Photoshoot with Véronique of France with Véro
Here at Your Paris Photographer, we have been fans of France with Véro for quite a while. We started following Véronique on Facebook and immediately loved her welcoming and informative posts about traveling in and around France. The aim of France with Véro is to educate travelers beyond what they are used to seeing in guidebooks and online and to delve into the real culture of France ‘in all its diversity, complexity and frequent contradictions.’ As travel lovers and Parisian transplants, this is a travel vibe that we all resonated with. So, when we got the opportunity to meet up with Véronique for a Montmartre photoshoot, we were so excited!

Keep reading for answers to all of the questions we had for Véro during our Montmarte photoshoot and get inspired to travel France like a real local.
Where are you from?
I was born in Toulouse, southwestern France and lived in several French regions with my family including Paris and the Ile de France until I moved to Seattle, WA where I stayed for 23 years.
What prompted you to start France with Vero?
I relocated to France in 2019 after more than two decades abroad and started working as a professional tour guide. A few months later, Covid hit, and my job vanished.
I had to pay the bills and took all my activities online. “France with Vero” was born. I started teaching French conversation classes on Zoom (I had run a French language tutoring business in the US for 15 years) and launched a Patreon program as a full time content creator, sharing Paris and France on social media and in live-streamed virtual tours.

What do you like about teaching people about France?
I have shared France, French culture and the French language professionally or as a hobby (via a blog in Seattle) for over two decades.
My homeland never leaves anyone indifferent yet stereotypes abound even if France and the French have changed over the last few decades. I love to challenge some visitors’ take on France and introduce them to destinations – or stories – they are not familiar with. My reward: Hearing “I had no idea!” at the end of a visit.

What is your top tip for traveling France successfully?
Learn a few words in French. Leave Paris once in a while to see the real France. Ride a train or drive a car but try and discover destinations that are not featured on social media’s “must visit” lists. You’ll be happy you did.
What is your favorite thing about Paris?
The unlimited opportunities to explore and learn, whether you enjoy history, architecture, art, gastronomy or just walking at your own pace around the city streets and parks.

If you had one week to spend in France with an unlimited budget, where would you go and what would you do?
I would rent a (very democratic) Citroën 2CV and embark on a road trip across France, avoiding major roads and cities. I would sleep at luxurious, privately-owned châteaux and enjoy a lavish breakfast every morning before returning to my French automotive icon for new adventures.

What is next for France with Vero?
In 2025 and beyond, I’d like to continue combining my passion for teaching and guiding by launching weeklong French immersion workshops in the Loire Valley where I live.
Check out France with Vero on Instagram, Facebook and on her website for tours, language classes, travel tips and more!
