Kid-Friendly Photoshoot in Paris with the Mitchell Family

When is the last time you took family portraits? Odds are, it’s something that you may have been putting off for a while. It always seems to be one of those things that keeps falling to the bottom of the to-do list. What if we said we have the perfect solution? Take them when you’re on vacation! When the Mitchell family planned their European vacation, that is exactly what they decided to do and it couldn’t have been a better choice. They did multiple photoshoots while on their vacation and we were honored that they chose us for their parisian family portrait session.

Booking a family portrait session in Paris at the end of July 2024 meant that Olympic preparations were in full swing so some of our normal photoshoot locations weren’t accessible. It wasn’t that much of a problem, however, because Palais Royal is the perfect place for a kid-friendly photoshoot in Paris. Our photographer Nicolas met them for a fun-filled afternoon photoshoot in what might just be the most beautiful garden in Paris, le jardin du Palais-Royal.

Why do a photoshoot in Palais Royal?

If you want your photoshoot in Paris to stand out from the crowd, we love Palais Royal as a background. Not only is it absolutely gorgeous, but it has multiple different types of settings – dark tree-lined paths, floral gardens, fantastic architecture, statues, and fountains! We love a location that has a lot of visual interest and allows us to get a variety of photos. It’s especially great for kid-friendly family photoshoots because Palais Royal has plenty of things to keep your littlest family members occupied.

What to wear for a kid-friendly photoshoot in Paris?

With a big family, it can be really hard to know what to wear to a photoshoot. You want everyone to look nice AND you want everyone to be coordinated without looking like you tried too hard. The Mitchells chose to have all of their children wear matching t-shirts which was so cute! With children wearing matching t-shirts and parents wearing coordinating colors, the Mitchell’s outfits all naturally went together, which photographs really well.

Family portraits AND candid memories – how to get the most out of your family portrait session

Your family is unique so your portraits should be unique too! Of course we will get nice portraits of your entire family and each member in it, but we also like to be sure we are capturing the essence of you by taking some candid photos. Candid photos are what truly reflect a family’s personality and relationships. By photographing you interacting with your loved ones, laughing at each others jokes and generally just being you, we can capture natural memories alongside those classic family pictures.

The Mitchells did a great job being themselves in front of the camera and the most fun part? Letting the boys be themselves! They gave us all sorts of fun poses; they ran, they laughed, and they generally had a good time. Some of the most heartwarming photos came from these unscripted moments between brothers, parents and the entire family.

Take-away tips for a successful family photoshoot

If you’re planning a family photoshoot in Paris, here are a few of our best tips to ensure it’s a success:

  1. Choose the location wisely : Pick a spot where everyone can relax and be themselves – know what kind of vibe you want for your photos and choose a location accordingly. Need help? Our photographers know Paris and can help you find the exact place that fits you and your photoshoot.
  2. Coordinate outfits: Select a color palette that works well together without being too uniform.
  3. Incorporate activities: Games and activities keep kids engaged and result in natural, candid shots.
  4. Mix candid and posed shots: A balance of both types of photos gives you a well-rounded collection and can help you feel more comfortable in front of the camera.
  5. Be patient and flexible: Kids can be unpredictable, so go with the flow and capture the magic as it happens. You’ll be glad you did!

A family photoshoot is more than just a series of pictures; it’s an opportunity to create and preserve memories that will be cherished for years to come. The Mitchell’s photoshoot was filled with laughter, love, and moments that they’ll look back on fondly. If you’re considering a family photoshoot, embrace the natural, have fun, and let your family’s unique spirit shine through.
